Jonathan T. D. Neil is the Co-Founder of Inversion Art, an investment accelerator program and artist services agency designed to provide artists with the knowledge, connections, and operational support they need to focus on creating their most ambitious work.
Prior to Inversion, Jonathan was Associate Provost for Academic Affairs and Strategic Initiatives, as well as Associate Professor of Art Business and Arts Management, at Claremont Graduate University (CGU). Before assuming his role in the Provost’s office, he was the Founding Director of the Center for Business and Management of the Arts (CBMArts) at CGU, and of Sotheby’s Institute of Art – Los Angeles, which ran at CGU from 2013 until 2019.
Since 2010 Jonathan has served in various editorial roles, most recently as Contributing Editor, for ArtReview magazine. From 2011-2016 he was editor of the Held Essays on Visual Art for The Brooklyn Rail, and from 2008 until 2014 he was Executive Editor at The Drawing Center in New York City.
In 2005 he co-founded Boyd Level LLC, a private curatorial firm and consultancy that specializes in contemporary art.
Jonathan has a PhD in 20th-Century Art History from Columbia University and a B.Arch from Cornell University. He has taught courses on modern and contemporary art and architectural history, the international art market, critical writing, critical theory, and the history of photography at Columbia University, Parsons The New School for Design, and Sotheby’s Institute of Art in New York. He is a member of the New York Chapter of the International Association of Art Critics (AICA).
